In Detention

LaShawn is shown with his girlfriend, Zoe Parker, under the bleachers at Kent High School. He and Zoe are interrupted by his best friend Noodle Nelson, who wants LaShawn to come over and play basketball with him. LaShawn agrees to come play in a few minutes, and tells Noodle go to practice free throws until he comes over. Once Noodle leaves it shows LaShawn inject himself with insulin hinting at the fact that he has diabetes.

When the alarm goes off warning of a containment breach at Keller Chemical Plant, he is seen walking over to the basketball court, holding hands with Zoe. They, along with everyone else, believe that it is just a drill until Mary Jones runs over to let the Coach know that it isn't a drill - the chemical plant is on fire.

After Coach pulls everyone into the school, LaShawn is one of the few kids who listens to Natalie Callaway when she explains that going outside into the fog after the explosion is the wrong move and is potentially very dangerous. When Zoe tries to leave, to make sure her family is okay, LaShawn stands in her way saying that it's not safe and she has to stay inside. This causes her to get defensive with him, and in the end it is Barrett McIntyre who talks her down and convinces her to stay.

When the fog from the Chemical Plant approaches the school, the group backs away from the doors and Coach gives them all something to do. LaShawn, Zoe, and Noodle head into the teacher's lounge. Noodle and Zoe try t get reception on their phones while LaShawn tries to get the radio working, however all of them are out of luck.

Near the end of the episode, when everyone goes to sleep, it shows LaShawn and Zoe curled up together on one of the couches, seemingly asleep.

In Winds of Change,

After they bring all of the sick kids who left the school only to return the next day down into the fallout shelter in the basement, LaShawn comes down with Zoe and Noodle to take part in the discussion on what to do. Zoe and Violet Adams have a disagreement about what's going on outside and LaShawn shuts it down by telling Zoe that Violet "isn't worth it". Later on, everyone tries to go back to bed, and LaShawn and Zoe are shown curled up together on a couch in the background while Violet and Natalie have a conversation on the adjacent couch.

The next day it shows LaShawn and Zoe looking through a closet, that seems to be where the school keeps all of their school merchandise, trying to find a new sweater for LaShawn. When they hear a noise they assume that it's Noodle pranking them and approach where they heard it coming from. when nothing seems to be there they go to leave, but just as he reaches the door LaShawn is jumped by what used to be Mr. H, the janitor, making them the first to see what they would later start to call a 'Freak'.

LaShawn and Zoe head down to the basement, going to tell Coach what just happened, and run into Grover and Mary who are on their way to deliver food and medicine to Coach and the sick kids in the shelter. LaShawn nearly bashes Grovers head in with a pipe that he picked up to defend him and Zoe from the 'Freaks' if there were anymore in the school. He and Zoe try to explain to Grover and Mary what happened with Mr. H in the supply closet and Grover says that he and Mary will go tell Coach and tells Zoe and LaShawn to go explain to the others upstairs. After Grover and Mary walk into the shelter and find all the kids that were sick eating the Coach they go back upstairs to tell everyone along with LaShawn and Zoe.

With the new information that they have gained the survivors reconvene on whether or not to risk going outside or stay inside with the basement full of 'Freaks'. Zoe and LaShawn want to leave, but again Barrett talks them out of it. The group decides to listen to Barrett and they begin to block all the entrances and search the building to make sure everything is locked and sealed, while Barrett tries to build a radio to ask for help.

In Secrets,

LaShawn pulls Zoe into a utility closet and shows her that they have a problem: he has less than a day left of insulin. After Natalie and Mary do an inventory check, Natalie goes to let the others know that they have just under two weeks of food left if they ration carefully. LaShawn and Zoe sit together on one of the couches as they listen to the news and argue with Mary when she shows up to tell everyone that the food isn't a problem because the 'Freaks' are coming for them and they wont last another two weeks anyway. When Mary leaves everyone seems to agree that she isn't acting normally and Noodle jokes that she's high, while Barrett suggests they keep an eye on her.

When everyone finds out that Mary is sick, Zoe suggests that they should keep her locked away from everyone since she could be a danger if its contagious. LaShawn is quick to agree that it isn't safe to be around Mary and that they should keep a healthy distance from her. The rest of the group agrees with the exception of Violet and Natalie, saying that they can't trust Grover, since he would do anything to save her and that Mary is a serious threat, if she got sick from the 'Freaks' they could get sick from her. The group goes to eat in the cafeteria without Grover and Mary. Everyone heads to bed and LaShawn talks Natalie down while she cries, remembering her best friend, Addy. He tells her to get some sleep and settles back into his couch with Zoe.

In Trapped,

LaShawn walks into the gym where Noodle is playing basketball, and they jokingly start up a game of one on one, not knowing that Mary turned and escaped the classroom they had her locked up in. LaShawn makes a basket on his first try and leaves to go find Zoe, telling Noodle he'll see him in an hour. Noodle tries to get him to stay, but LaShawn goes, leaving Noodle to play alone.

Grover groups everyone together and lets them know that Mary escaped. Diesel Turner hands everyone a weapon and they realize that everyone is there except for Noodle. LaShawn and Zoe head for the gym, since that's where Noodle last was and he doesn't know that Mary escaped. When LaShawn and Zoe get to the gym it's empty and they head for the locker room calling for him.

When they enter the locker room they see that Noodles locker has a smear of blood on it and they hear something coming from the same direction. LaShawn goes towards the noise leaving Zoe behind. She decides to walk down the rows of lockers further from where LaShawn was headed to. Once she gets down to the second to last row of lockers she finds Mary eating Noodle. Zoe drops her knife and tries to get out the emergency exit door but it wont open. She screams for LaShawn but he's too far away. She shoves Mary and jumps over a row of lockers and runs directly into LaShawn and he asks what happened. She points down the aisle of lockers to Noodles body and when LaShawn goes to see Zoe tells him that they have to go, pulling him away. As they run to the exit, Mary attacks them LaShawn pushes her down and they run with Mary right behind them, they are able to close the cage door of the locker room and escape.

LaShawn and Zoe run into one of the bathrooms and regroup. They come out when they hear Violet and Barrett coming down the hall. They go over to explain that Mary killed Noodle and that they left her in the locker room, and Violet realizes that Grover was headed that way.

After Grover captures Mary in the basement the group gets together to decide what to do with her. LaShawn and Zoe want to kill her because of what happened with Noodle, but Grover wants to keep her alive because he believes that Mary is still in there somewhere. The group votes and she is kept alive, which makes Zoe and LaSawn angry. LaShawn threatens Grover that if he lies again he will kill both Grover and Mary.

When Grover finds out that Barrett wanted to keep Mary alive to experiment on her he gets angry and the group again has to take a vote on what they think is right; leave her alone because it's still Mary or experiment on her to learn more about the 'Freaks'. LaShawn says that killing her would have been the right thing.

In Weakness,

LaShawn and Zoe are in the bathroom and he looks very pale. Zoe asks if she can help but he doesn't answer and bends to drink some water from the sink, immediately spitting it back out. When he lifts his head again Zoe is gone and one of the stall doors is moving. He goes over and pushes it open and finds Noodle inside giving him a weird look and asking if he's okay. He glances away and when he looks back Noodle is a 'Freak'. He bolts away from the door and when he turns to leave Zoe is there concerned and asking what's wrong. He explains that there are 'Freaks' inside and that they have to leave and goes running down the hallway with Zoe chasing after him telling him to stop. He slams directly into Diesel who is at one of the doors saying that they have to get out of the school and Zoe comes up behind him saying to Diesel that she thinks he's hallucinating. 'Freaks' from outside hear the noise and come over to the doors and LaShawn goes sprinting down the hallway with Diesel chasing after him this time, leaving Grover and Zoe to deal with the doors. LaShawn makes it to the next exit and starts prying the boards off to get outside. Diesel catches up and pulls him away from the doors getting between them and LaShawn, when LaShawn come at him again Diesel punches him and LaShawn topples to the ground unconscious.

After all the doors have been secured everyone gathers around LaShawn's unconscious body as Zoe presses an ice pack to his face. They ask whether he had been bitten or exposed to the outside air, but she shuts them down saying that he isn't changing; he needs insulin. Natalie informs them that he only has a few hours to live and they all set off to search the school for insulin.

Meanwhile, they move LaShawn into the couch area so that he's comfortable while they look. He has another hallucination, this time with Zoe kissing him and then Noodle walking up behind her to say to LaShawn to look at her again, when he looks back at Zoe she has turned into a 'Freak'.

Zoe comes back over to him to tuck him in and make him comfortable. Zoe goes to the bathroom to get LaShawn more water and when she comes back he has slipped into a coma. In the coma LaShawn dreams that he's dressed up and headed outside, Noodle is waiting for him in front of the doors and tells him he would have to open the doors to get outside and to go ahead and try to get out. LaShawn looks behind him and sees Barrett and when he turns back to Noodle Barrett as a 'Freak' is directly in front of him. The dream cuts back to Zoe smoothing out the blanket and talking to him, when she is interrupted by Barrett who lets her know that he found insulin. Zoe goes back over to LaShawn and injects him with the insulin and he wakes up a little while later.

LaShawn and Zoe while Grover apologizes to them about Noodle

LaShawn and Zoe while Grover apologizes to them about Noodle

The group goes to the cafeteria to eat dinner and LaShawn toasts Barrett for finding the insulin that saved his life. They laugh and have a nice family dinner and enjoy the vodka that Diesel found in one of the lockers. After dinner Grover finds LaShawn and Zoe tickling each other on one of the couches. He tells them he's sorry that he kept Marys bite a secret and that Noodle ended up dying from it. They forgive him, but their conversation is swiftly interrupted by Diesel coming to tell them that the water is out... everywhere.

In Thirst

Barrett gathers all the fluids they have and says that with the seven people they have in their group they only have enough fluids for a few days. LaShawn suggests drinking out of the toilets if it comes down to it and Barrett asks how long the insulin he has now will last, he responds that it'll last longer than the water.

The group gets together to discuss how they could get past the 'Freaks' to get the gas masks out of the fallout shelter in the basement to see if they could fix the water or find help outside. Barrett suggests using a flamethrower to scare the 'Freaks' back and while Zoe agrees that this could work LaShawn doubts that it could work without a major consequence. In the end they go with Violets knock-out gas plan.

With the Science Wing full of 'Freaks' the group decides that in order to get the chemicals for the gas they need to go through the vents. Violet and Zoe decide to go since they are the smallest and would be able to fit in the vents and LaShawn tries to talk Zoe out of it, saying that if she freaks out she wont be able to help Violet when something bad happens, but sadly, him saying this only makes her want to prove herself.

When she gets back he's very proud of her for saving Violet and she tells him that now he knows she can defend herself and be useful. They agree that she is "kind of a badass" and go to have some privacy in one of the maintenance closets.

In Knockout,

Violet explains to Grover, LaShawn and Zoe how the knock out gas works and LaShawn decides to get everyone together to decide who has to go into the shelter. When Grover goes to find Barrett he finds him talking to someone on the radio and tells everyone at the meeting. Barrett gets into a fight with Violet and she uses the gas on him, and accidentally on Diesel. Taking them out of the pool of people who are able to go into the shelter. It ends up being decided that Grover and LaShawn will go into the shelter, with Violet at the door since she knows about the Ether gas. LaShawn and Zoe have a fight about whether or not she should come with them.

Down at the shelter they choose LaShawn to throw the gas into the shelter, since it needs to be directly in the middle of the room and he used to be the basketball team captain. They go in, and Natalie comes down to warn them that Barrett is waking up and that the gas wont last as long as Violet thought. LaShawn gets out easily but Grover accidentally inhales the gas and gets knocked out. When Violet tries to go in an get him LaShawn pulls her back out. When they hear Grover yelling for help LaShawn comes up with a plan to use chairs as shields and push all the 'Freaks' back to get Grover out. The plan works and they get Grover out along with one more gas mask that he had in his shirt.

The group gets together to celebrate the fallout shelter victory and laugh that Grover had no chance of escaping death but somehow got out - with a gas mask. Zoe separates herself from the group, upset that she had killed someone and LaShawn tries to comfort her by saying it wasn't a person it was a 'Freak' but she says that two days ago, that was a human being. They head back to the group and Diesel tells them that the only mask that still works is the one Grover brought out. So only one of them can leave, the question is; who?

In Outsiders,

The group decides to pull names out of a hat to decide who has to go out to look for help with the one gas mask. Since Natalie is pregnant she is excluded from the pool and has to pull out of the hat. She pulls Diesel, but when he puts the mask on they realize that he is claustrophobic and wouldn't be able to handle going outside in a closed off suit. Barrett goes back to the bowl and pulls Zoe out, but because of his feelings for her he lies and says it's LaShawn. Zoe starts to cry saying that it should be Diesel, but LaShawn just takes the mask. He tells Zoe that he'll be alright, and they start to get him ready. They give him a walkie talkie and he has his phone, Zoe's still very upset but he promises her that he will come back and he will be okay. Then he sets out. As soon as he leaves a 'Freak' pops up behind him and everyone tries to get its attention on them, but it goes to follow him.

They don't hear from LaShawn for a large amount of time after he leaves, but he eventually radios saying he had to be quiet because he was surrounded by 'Freaks' and that he had found an ambulance. The paramedics are dead and when he gets into the ambulance he is pulled back out again by something and they lose contact.

In Saved,
Zoe believes that LaShawn is dead. She goes into his locker and looks at a picture of her, LaShawn, and Noodle and thinks back to when it was taken.

In Prey,
LaShawn walks back into the school to find Barrett comforting Zoe about Natalie's death, Zoe jumps up and hugs him. Before they can say much of anything LaShawn looks out the doors at the people now walking to the school with flashlights and the same type of suits as John Collins, and says, "They followed me here. I didn't have a choice."

Season 2[]

In Trespass,

The beginning of the episode flashes back to when LaShawn first lost contact with the school. It shows that a 'Freak' attacked him while he was getting the radio from the ambulance he had found. He killed it but the noise from the fight attracted another and he had to make a quick escape by getting into the ambulance and driving away in it. When he got to the police station he found that Keller had taken it over and quarantined it, making it safe for them to stay in. He doesn't know that Keller is actually killing survivors and runs in to get help. He passes out before he gets to say much to the people there, and wakes up in a hospital bed with an IV. When he tells the woman with him that his friends are at the High School and that they had run out of water the day before she tells him she will get his friends help and quickly leaves, locking him in the room. He pulls out his IV and when he realizes that she locked him in he uses the IV stand to pull to door handle off the door and get out.

While trying to figure out what was going on at the police station he walked into a restricted area and found bodies and people doing experiments on prisoners. He also sees an interrogation room where one of the Keller people kills someone for not giving up information. LaShawn decides he needs to get away and starts to try and find a way out. The woman goes back to the room she left him in and realizes he escaped. The entire building starts searching for him, but luckily he finds his suit that came in and jumps out a window just before they catch him. When he lands and starts running down the road back to the ambulance he is seen by a man who seems to not need a mask to breath the toxic air.

In present day, LaShawn, Barrett, and Zoe run from the windows and Barrett confronts LaShawn about brining Keller back to the school, wanting to know how much LaShawn told them. They argue and Zoe tells Barrett to go warn the others. LaShawn is mad at her because he thinks that she got with Barrett while he was gone. When Zoe explains to him that Barrett was just comforting her because Natalie died, he apologizes for getting mad and they hug. They gather everyone and just make it into a classroom before Keller gets in. In order to save everyone else LaShawn gives himself up so they will leave the classroom that they are all hiding in.

They tie LaShawn to a chair and begin to interrogate him about where his friends are. When he wont cooperate the woman he had met in the police station gets out a hammer and turns the intercom on, so that the others can hear her torturing him.

When Diesel kills O'Grady, one of the Keller agents, Grover uses the radio to call for backup, causing the woman to bring LaShawn with her to check on the agent. When they get there they find the 'Freaks' eating the body of the man Diesel killed and using that as a distraction LaShawn tries to get away. She overpowers him and brings him to the floor. She snaps his leg and leaves him there as a buffer between her and the 'Freaks' and runs. The 'Freaks' start to come at LaShawn as he tries to crawl away, but he's too injured to make it far. Diesel, Grover, and Barrett come out of the classroom they are hiding in and kill the 'Freaks' just in time.

The guys splint LaShawns broken leg, while Zoe waits outside with Violet comforting her. LaShawn wakes up the next morning after they finish the makeshift splint, with Zoe waiting anxiously beside him. He says it already feels better than the day before and that he'll be fine. The man that didn't need a mask ends up outside the school - most likely having followed LaShawn.

In Attraction,

LaShawn and Barrett discuss what he saw on the outside. Whether there were any animals, signs of life. LaShawn brings up the odd experiments he saw at the police station and the fact that maybe there are worse things on the outside than 'Freaks'. LaShawn thanks Barrett for taking care of Zoe while he was gone, and Barrett responds that him and Zoe got close while LaShawn was gone.

Zoe sits with LaShawn on the couch and they talk about what it was like while he was gone. She makes him promise he'll be fine, and he obliges. Zoe talks to Grover and Violet about getting him a wheelchair and that since he has diabetes it would be a smart move to put him on antibiotics. Grover agrees and decides to go outside to the ambulance that LaShawn drove back. But when he gets there he discovers that there aren't any antibiotics in it, and decides to go to the local drugstore to find some.

LaShawn starts to get dizzy and tries to find someone using a walker, but when he steps into the hallways he sees the man that followed him back to the school. He startles and falls over and when he looks back the man is gone. Zoe comes running over and gets him back into bed, and the 'Freaks' start clawing at the windows. Zoe goes over to the group and tells that something is really wrong with LaShawn, when they go in and look at his leg they see that the wound has turned black and started to reek. Barrett tells them it's gangrene and that the smell is attracting the 'Freaks'. There are so many 'Freaks' at the doors that the barricades are starting to break.

Barrett suggests amputation, but they don't have the right supplies and he would die during the operation. Zoe goes to get ice from the cafeteria and Violet tries to help Diesel with boarding the doors, and they leave Barrett alone with LaShawn. When Barrett walks back into the room with LaShawn, he tells Barrett to kill him, to save Zoe.

The 'Freaks' stop trying to get in and the screeching stops. Knowing what this mean Zoe drops the ice and starts sprinting back to where she left LaShawn. When she gets there she finds Barrett beside LaShawns body. Barrett lets everyone believe that LaShawn died from the gangrene and not that he'd killed him.
